Bifold / Folding Glass Walls
A bifold (folding glass wall) is a run of hinged glass leaves that fold against each other and stack to one or both sides, opening up a whole wall instead of just a doorway. You size it by the overall opening width and the number of leaves — figure roughly 32" per leaf as a typical starting point. It's the most labor-intensive opening Anchor quotes (plan on about 5 crew-hours per leaf, plus a return trip for screw inspection), so it's priced per panel/leaf rather than as a single unit.
- Leaf width: ~32" per leaf (typical)
- Labor: ~5 crew-hours per leaf
- Buck pieces: 3 (head + 2 jambs, no sill)
- Jamb cut: head width minus 1.5"
- Extra trip: 1 screw-inspection visit
- Pricing basis: per panel / per leaf
- Stacking direction is a design choice: leaves can fold to one side or split and stack both ways — confirm it before ordering, since it drives the hinge layout and where the stack lands.
- The top track carries the weight of the leaves on its rollers, so the head must be set dead-level and solid — this is what makes bifolds buck as 3 pieces instead of 4.
- Like sliding glass doors, a folding wall is bucked head + 2 jambs with NO sill, and the jambs are cut to head width minus 1.5".
- Standard buck math still applies to the opening: a nominal size gets +3.5", a labeled R.O. gets +3.0", and a labeled M.O. is used as-is to find the masonry opening the buck frames; the finished hole is the unit width plus 1/2" shim.
- The screw-inspection trip is a separate scheduled visit, not the same day as install — build it into the timeline and the price.
Pros
- Opens an entire wall, not just a doorway — biggest indoor/outdoor connection of any option
- Flexible stacking: fold to one side or both
- Priced per leaf, so the quote scales cleanly with opening size
Watch-outs
- Most labor-intensive opening Anchor installs (~5 crew-hours per leaf)
- Requires an extra screw-inspection trip, adding time and cost
- Top-track/roller system demands a dead-level, structurally solid head
